Achilleas G. Chaldæakes, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens

Achilleas G. Chaldæakes is Professor of Byzantine Musicology and Psaltic Art at the Department of Music Studies of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He teaches at the undergraduate and postgraduate level at the NKUA as well as at other universities and institutes. His published scientific work comprises more than 200 studies, primarily on topics pertaining to the field of Byzantine Musicology and Psaltic Art. He participates in conferences both in Greece and abroad as a panelist and as a member of the scientific and organizing committees. He is also an active member of various international scientific societies whose activities are focused on Byzantine musicological studies. 

Professor Chaldæakes is Director of The Maestros of the Psaltic Art, an artistic group of international renown. With the choir, he has given over 400 performances in Europe, Asia, America, and Australia and has appeared in radio and TV shows in Greece and abroad. He also is an internationally recognized chanter. He has recorded, alone or with various ensembles, Byzantine hymns, some of which were discovered during the course of his academic research, as well as musical examples of secular or folk music and contemporary compositions.

In his dual academic and musical pursuits, Professor Chaldæakes explores new paths toward a global, multifaceted, and innovative approach to Byzantine Musicology and Psaltic Art.
