The Mary Jaharis Center offers a series of grants with the aim of promoting Byzantine studies. Our funding opportunities are directed at advanced graduate students, early career academics, and Hellenic College Holy Cross faculty.
In order to support the advancement of Byzantine studies and disseminate knowledge about the current state of the field, the Mary Jaharis Center hosts academic conferences for scholars at all levels.
To encourage the integration of Byzantine studies within the scholarly community and medieval studies in particular, the Mary Jaharis Center sponsors sessions at major academic conferences and provides limited financial support for participants.
Through its public lecture series, the Mary Jaharis Center brings renowned scholars of Byzantine art and culture to the Hellenic College Holy Cross campus. All are welcome to attend these free events.
This annual event sponsored by the Mary Jaharis Center explores the musical traditions of the Byzantine Empire and its influence across the Mediterranean. It highlights HCHC's commitment to the study and performance of Byzantine liturgical music.
East of Byzantium is a partnership between the Arthur H. Dadian and Ara Oztemel Chair of Armenian Art at Tufts University and the Mary Jaharis Center. It explores the cultures of the eastern frontier of the Byzantine Empire in the late antique and medieval periods.
