Choose Your Own Adventure: Digital Methods for Byzantinists
This two-part event, led by A.L. McMichael, will be a talk and workshop designed to introduce best practice in digital humanities methods for Byzantine Studies graduate students and early career researchers. During the first part, attendees will learn how to conduct an environmental scan of relevant projects, construct humanities research as data, and visualize data using digital tools. We will discuss strategies for guiding this process toward the researcher’s own goals, research questions, and resources. The second half of the workshop will be a hands-on introduction to building digital collections of historical sources using Omeka.net, an open source content management system. Participants will leave with a road map to guide their future digital research decisions and a public-facing digital humanities project for their portfolio. Registered attendees will be sent a list of tools and materials to bring to the workshop.
This workshop is limited to 20 participants. Registration is first come, first served. If there is a problem with your registration, you will be contacted; otherwise, the email containing the Zoom link and the list of tools and materials need for the workshop will serve as your registration confirmation. If registration is full when you attempt to register, you may request to be put on a waiting list by contacting Brandie Ratliff at mjcbac@hchc.edu. If you are unable to attend the workshop, please email Brandie Ratliff at mjcbac@hchc.edu so that your space may be given to someone on the waiting list. Registration is closed.
