The American Center of Research, a nonprofit institution dedicated to advancing knowledge of Jordan and the interconnected region, past and present, seeks a Project Archivist. This full-time position requires residence in Amman, Jordan, and is primarily intended to assist the organization in the implementation of a digital archiving project.
The ACOR Digital Archive contains nearly 70,000 records at present and serves as a critical source for research and educational initiatives about Jordan and the region. The archive is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, and its goal is to make an additional 18,600 multimedia objects (including photographs, audio and videotapes, and born-digital files) of relevance to regional cultural heritage and archaeology freely available online during the next four years.
Anyone with sufficient relevant experience will be considered. In all cases, the following are required:
- University graduate in cultural resource management, heritage, or archaeology; library and archival sciences; translation; or related degree program. MA/MLS level preferred, but not required.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop/Lightroom, Bridge), collaborative working tools (e.g., Google Drive, OneDrive), and MS Office programs (particularly Excel). Knowledge of digitization tools and equipment is important.
- Working knowledge of proper care and handling of photos, slides, negatives, and similar.
- Working knowledge of archival standards and practices, including metadata and digital imaging standards.
- Experience with English-Arabic translation. Fluency in Arabic and English is required.
- Experience or interest in archaeology, architecture, digital media, and archives, or related.
