The Austrian Archaeological Institute (OeAI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) is offering a Postdoc Position (part-time, 30h per week) in the FWF project "Crossing the Sea. Pottery from Asia Minor in Athens" (P35244-G) starting from May 15th, 2024, for a duration of 2 years.
The successful application will be responsible for processing pottery finds (with a focus on amphorae) of selected contexts from the OeAI excavations at Ephesos/TR and from the ASCA excavations at the Athenian Agora/GR, identifying Asia Minor pottery imports in Athens, finding statistics and scientific documentation of the diagnostic pottery finds, macroscopic fabric determination, recording finds in a project database, and evaluating finds and contributing to project publications.
Qualifications
- PhD in archaeology
- Ideally several years of experience in the field of pottery studies and amphora research in the Mediterranean
- Experience in material culture studies, especially in Asia Minor
- Knowledge in Roman and Byzantine archaeology and economic history
- Good German and excellent English skills needed
