The Zurich Center for the Study of the Ancient World (ZAZH) at the University of Zurich offers for the Autumn Semester 2025 a Junior Visiting Professorship in a field of Ancient studies (including Egyptology, Ancient Near East studies and Byzantine studies). The candidates are expected to increase the visibility of their discipline both within the University, through a weekly two-hour Seminar, and through outreach activity, including one public lecture. These teaching activities, as well as the research program during the professorship, should address the general topic of the ZAZH for the year 2025, "Ancient Emotions from a Modern Perspective" ("Mithassen – Mitfühlen. Antike Gefühlswelten aus moderner Perspektive"). In return, the candidate will benefit from the excellent research infrastructure of the University of Zurich, and from the opportunity for interdisciplinary exchange with the colleagues at the Center for Ancient Studies.
The position is offered for four months, and should be filled, in exclusive dedication, from September 1, 2025 until the end of December 2025. Candidates must have completed their doctorate and either be habilitated or on their way to their habilitation or equivalent qualification. The teaching languages may be German or English.
