Entre Bizancio y Occidente: materiales, técnicas y procesos artísticos del Skylitzes Matritensis / Between Byzantium and the West: Materials, Techniques and Artistic Processes of the Skylitzes Matritensis, Jorge Semprún Auditorium (Ministry of Culture), Madrid, November 6–7, 2024
The international Seminar entitled "Between Byzantium and the West: materials, techniques and artistic processes of the Skylitzes Matritensis", will take place in Madrid on 6 and 7 November 2024 at the Jorge Semprún Auditorium (Ministry of Culture), Calle San Marcos.
This International Seminar is coordinated by Manuel Castiñeiras (UAB), María Martín Gil (IPCE) and Stefanos Kroustallis (ESCRBCM), and has been organized within the research project, Byzantine Illuminated Manuscripts in Spain: Artworks, Context and Materiality- MABILUS (MICINN-PID2020-120067GB-I00), together with the IPCE (Institute of Cultural Heritage in Spain).
The aim of this encounter is to present the results of the lab-technical analyses carried out at the IPCE (Institute of Cultural Heritage in Spain) on the famous illustrated Byzantine chronicle, Skyltizes Matritensis (BNE VITR/26/2), created in Sicily in the mid-12th century, and compare them to other similar experiences undertook on Byzantine manuscripts in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, or in countries such as Cyprus and Germany. The seminar includes a guided visit by the curators to the exhibition, "Un universo de imágenes: el Skylitzes Matritenstis" at the Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid.
