The University of Evansville invites applications for a tenure-track, full-time position as Assistant Professor of Archaeology to start on August 1, 2024. We seek candidates with expertise in the archaeology of Greece in any periods from the late prehistoric through the early Medieval. While the field of research is open, a commitment to an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the past is a must. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching for both non-majors in General Education courses and archaeology majors in survey and upper-level courses. We seek an amiable colleague who enjoys interacting with undergraduates and engaging them in research. Affiliation with an on-going field project in Greece or in the areas of Greek colonization in the Mediterranean, to which the faculty member could bring undergraduates during the summer, is a plus. The successful applicant must have a completed PhD in Classical Archaeology, Anthropological Archaeology, or a related field by the contract start date.

A normal teaching load includes seven courses spread over two semesters with the expectation that faculty will participate in department duties such as recruitment and university-wide duties such as serving in faculty governance. In addition to an introductory survey course in the archaeology of ancient Greece, the faculty member will be expected to teach upper-level courses in their area of expertise as well as in interdisciplinary subjects from the field of Classics or Anthropology.
