Harvard University's Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS) is dedicated to the reassertion of the humanism of the ancient world, centering on Hellenic civilization in its widest sense. The CHS supports postdoctoral researchers with a variety of configurations. The prerequisite for a fellowship is a PhD degree in Classics or a related field. Applicants must have defended their degree before July 1, 2024.
The following fellowships have a deadline of November 16, 2024.
CHS Fellowships in Hellenic Studies
The program encourages and supports postdoctoral research of the highest quality on topics related to ancient Greek civilization. The program offers options for individual and collaborative proposals, and provides for flexibility in terms of residency at the CHS (Washington, DC) and levels of financial support.
Summer Fellowships in Hellenic Studies
The program aims to support postdoctoral scholars for whom a residential fellowship during the academic year is unfeasible by providing a stipend and housing at the CHS (Washington, DC) for six weeks during the summer.
Early Career Fellowships in Hellenic Studies in Greece and Cyprus
The program aims to support postdoctoral researchers who are citizens or permanent residents of Greece and Cyprus, and whose work requires continued access to material on site (e.g. archives, artifacts, archaeological sites). Fellowships include a stipend and the opportunity to visit the CHS offices in Nafplio, for up to 5 days, and in Washington, DC, for up to 10 days.
CHS-Institute of Historical Research Joint Fellowship in Hellenic Studies
The program aims to support researchers in the areas of ancient history, epigraphy, numismatics, and classical archaeology (especially color studies, iconography, funerary archaeology and GIS) and whose project would benefit from use of both the CHS and IHR libraries as well as access to material in and around Athens (e.g. archives, artifacts, archaeological sites).
