Date: Nov 12, 2016 Time: 9:30 AM–10:15 AM Location: Hellenic College Holy Cross Building: Archbishop Iakovos Library Reading Room

Dr. Nick Giannoukakis, Protopsaltis of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA, leads a discussion of the chromatic genus.

A modern consideration of the chromatic genus. With the assistance of new digital tools and the re-discovery of musical theoretical texts following the monumental works of Chrysanthos of Madyta (d. 1846), a simpler view of the chromatic genus can be ascertained and understood. Dr. Giannoukakis will present the foundation of this consideration along with a number of examples and explanations of musical practices at the analogion (cantor’s stand).

Seating is limited. Registration is required.
