The program for the celebration will include an inaugural address by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, opening remarks by Dr. Margaret Mullet, Director of the Byzantine Studies Center at Dumbarton Oaks, Washington, D.C., lectures by Dr. Helen C. Evans, Dr. Ryan Preston, and Mr. Nektarios Antoniou, and a concert by the Silk on the Road Ensemble and the Schola Cantorum Choir led by Mr. Antoniou.
The inaugural event will feature the opening of Kontoglou: The Return of the Byzantine Icon, an exhibition of icons curated by the Very Reverend Dr. Joachim Cotsonis, which serves as a tribute to Photis Kontoglou (1895–1965), a leading figure in the revival of Byzantine style icon painting in Greece and the United States.
