The Department of Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 1, 2023 in Roman Archaeology. The Department seeks a broadly trained Roman archaeologist specializing in the visual and material culture in the eastern Roman provinces, encompassing North Africa/the Maghreb, as well as the Levant, Greece, and Turkey. Applications from colleagues working on any period from the Republic through to Late Antiquity are welcomed. The area of specialization is open, but the successful candidate should be able to teach a variety of courses on Roman art and archaeology in Rome, Italy, and the western Roman provinces as well as in the east. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to research excellence, advising at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and teaching to multiple constituencies, including graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to be part of developing and teaching a diverse and inclusive curriculum, including interdisciplinary programs and other college-wide initiatives, such as the 360 Program and the Emily Balch Seminars. Experience in and commitment to fieldwork is desirable but not required. A Ph.D. in Classical Archaeology or a closely relevant field is required by the start date.
