Researcher, La pittura medievale in Basilicata. Le persistenze bizantine e la nuova cultura figurativa angioina, Università del Salento

An early stage researcher is sought for the research project La pittura medievale in Basilicata. Le persistenze bizantine e la nuova cultura figurativa angioina at the Università del Salento.

The research project aims at building a corpus of Byzantine and Angiou wall paintings in the region of Basilicata from eleventh to fourteenth century. This is the time when, in this region, a strong Western artistic language both in iconography and style developped.

Mural paintings (both cycles and iconic panels), placed in some churches and cave churches, will be studied in terms of style and through a iconographical analysis, suggesting some comparisons with similar works of art in Southern Italy and elsewhere.
